Rochester NY is home to Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Paychex, Wegman's and Bausch & Lomb to name a few internationally known companies. Rochester is also proud to be the home of Susan B. Anthony, George Eastman, Frederick Douglass, Olympic and World Cup soccer star, Abby Wambach, Pro Golfer Jeff Sluman, Garth Fagan, Lou Gramm (Rock band Foreigner), Chuck Mangione and many other celebrities.
We offer year round activities for everyone, from Summer festivals to spectator sports to skiing. In May, people visit from all over to witness the Lilac's in bloom in Highland Park at the Lilac Festival. The Park Ave Fest in July draws thousands to it's annual festival. Both the Villages of Fairport and Spencerport have festivals on the banks of the Erie Canal.
Catch the excitement of The Rochester Red Wings baseball team (the AAA affiliate to the Minnesota Twins) or The Rochester Raging Rhinos soccer team. In the Fall/Winter months come cheer on The Rochester Americans hockey team, known to their loyal fans as The Amerks. The Amerks are the affiliate club of the Buffalo Sabres. The Knighthawks indoor lacrosse team plays in the National Lacrosse League and The Razorsharks basketball team is the defending 2005-2006 CBA Champions. The Rochester Raiders indoor professional football team is a new arrival to our sports scene.
Rochester has a variety of public, semi-private and private golf courses to choose from. The Wegmans Rochester International is an annual LPGA event at Locust Hill Country Club and the prestigious Oak Hill Country Club is the only club to host a PGA Championship, The Ryder Cup, The US Open, The US Senior Open, The Senior PGA Championship (2008) and the US Amateur.
If Art and Cultural activities interest you, The Geva Theatre offers broadway theatre, childrens theatre, comedy and more. The George Eastman House, The Strong National Museum of Play, The Rochester Museum & Science Center- Planetarium provide entertainment for all ages.
Monroe County has 21 parks for recreational use. Walk the boardwalk, beach and pier along Lake Ontario or go boating on the Lake, Irondequoit Bay or up the Genesee River. Take a short drive and visit one or all of the Finger Lakes. In the Fall, you'll want to take a tour of the many wineries in the Finger Lakes region and and enjoy the spectacular scenery as the leaves change their color.
